ABSTRACT
The study investigated the Influence of Counseling Services on Learners' Enrolment and Adjustment in Literacy Programmes in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. However, four research questions were raised to guide the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. A sample size of 73 respondents drawn through a simple random technique was used in the study. A self structured questionnaire designed with a modified Likert Scale method made up of a four-point rating scale of Strongly Agreed (SA), Agreed (A), Disagreed (D) and Strongly Disagree (SD) was however adopted for the study. After the validation of the instrument, it was pilot-tested on a sample of 20 respondents for reliability and the data collected were analysed using descriptive which involved frequency count. The findings of the study among others revealed that there are five major counseling services provided in Egor local government area of Edo state which include career counseling, academic counseling, personal counseling, financial counseling and health and wellness counseling. Furthermore the study revealed that counseling services can promote enrolment in literacy programme in Egor local government area of Edo state as adults who received individual counseling prior to enrolment have significantly higher attendance and programme completion rate compared to those who did not. Also, the study revealed that counseling services greatly influence learner’s adjustment in literacy programme as majority of the respondents strongly affirmed that counseling services play a crucial role in addressing learners’ individual needs and challenges leading to successful adjustment and participation in literacy programme in Egor local government area of Edo state. From the finding of the study, recommendations were proffered which among others included that, sensitisation and awareness campaigns should be carried out frequently to promote the importance of counseling services in supporting learners' engagement and success in literacy programmes, targeting both learners and their families and also there should be a continuous monitoring and evaluation of counseling services' effectiveness in facilitating learner enrollment and adjustment in literacy programmes, with regular feedback mechanisms to identify areas for improvement.
