ABSTRACT

Examining the effects of classroom size on academic performance is the primary goal of this study. The following are some of the particular goals that were looked at:

To look into the impact of class size on secondary school students' academic performance:

To ascertain the degree to which secondary school instruction and learning are mediated by the size of the class.

This study used a survey research design as its methodology. Utilizing primary data sources, the study's design was meticulously carried out to fulfill the objectives of the research endeavor. Students in public secondary schools in Edo State, Benin City, make up the study's population. Based on its findings, this study comes to the conclusion that large class sizes contributes to poor academic performance, results in poor teaching methods and improper use of instructional materials since it is difficult for the teacher to demonstrate the material to all of the students, especially those in the back. Among the recommendations made in the study is that policymakers give the issue of increased funding for secondary school education in Nigeria top priority. Increased financing will aid in addressing issues with academic performance in secondary schools. School administrators and inspectors should pay closer attention to the number of pupils in each class and take precautions to prevent overcrowding.
