ABSTRACT
The study examined the influence of class size on the effective teaching of economic in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo Statc. To guide the study, four research questions were raised, two (2) research questions were answered while two (2)hypotheses formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive survey research based on ex-post-factor design. For the study, the population of the study consisted of five (5) economics teachers in the twenty-eight (28) public senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Sample of two (2) economics teachers were purposively selected. The research instrument used to gather data for the study was checklist titled: Assessment of Class Size and Teachers Workload Checklist (ACTWC). The finding revealed that the average class size of students was high.The economic teachers workload was high, there is significant relationship between average class size of students and economic teachers workload and there is no significant difference in relationship between the average class size of student and economic teachers workload based on gender. 15 The following recommendation .were made: Teachers should be rewarded for severe workload to encourage them to work and remain at the school longer, it is necessary to raise awareness by teaching staff about hazardous working condition. And there is need for post primary education board should employ more economic teachers.
