ABSTRACT
The study investigated the influence of broken homes on students’ academic performance in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and answered. The descriptive survey research method was adopted for the study. The population for this study consisted of all 4,026 students across the 12 public junior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample size for this study consisted of 150 students who were randomly selected from six (6) public junior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The findings from the study include that there is high prevalent rate of broken homes among students in secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. It was concluded that there is a significant influence of broken homes on students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The study recommended among others that secondary schools in Oredo local government should implement or enhance guidance and counselling services to support students from broken homes. Counsellors can provide emotional support and strategies to help students cope with family issues that may affect their academic performance.
