ABSTRACT

This study examined the influence of agricultural extension education on poverty reduction; Agricultural extension education programs aimed at reducing poverty were implemented in Ovia North East Local Government. This study aims to determine the benefits these programs bring to farmers in the region. It explores the extent of farmer participation in these programs, investigates the relationship between agricultural extension education and poverty reduction, and examines the challenges faced by these programs in Ovia North East Local Government. Five research questions were formulated to guide the study.

A survey research method was adopted, targeting agricultural extension workers in the Ovia North East Local Government Area. Using simple random sampling, 100 respondents were randomly selected. Data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, simple percentage, mean and standard deviation.

The study concludes that agricultural extension programs often offer guidance on diversification, risk management, and sustainable practices, thereby enhancing farmers' resilience to economic and environmental challenges. It is recommended that collaboration among government agencies, NGOs, research institutions, and private sector stakeholders is essential to maximize the impact of extension education. By pooling resources, expertise, and networks, these collaborative efforts can expand extension services, facilitate knowledge sharing, and overcome systemic barriers to poverty reduction.
