ABSTRACT

This study investigates Industrial Training in Home Economics as a panacea for Entrepreneurial skills in Edo State. Four (4) research questions were raised to guide the study. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The population of this study comprised of one hundred and twelve (112) Correspondents. The sample of the study was made up of one hundred and twelve (112) Home Economics undergraduate students in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education in University of Benin, Benin City, Edo state.

 The research instrument used for data collection was a self-structured questionnaire titled “Industrial Training in Home Economics; A panacea for Entrepreneurial skills in Edo state”. The instrument for data collection was subjected to face validity by the researcher's supervisor from the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City. To establish the reliability of the instrument, the internal consistency of the items were measured using the Cronbach alpha statistical tool. It yielded an alpha value of 0.85. The study used statistical analysis methods including mean, standard deviation, and two-sample independent t-tests to investigate the role of Industrial training in Home Economics as a panacea for Entrepreneurial skills in Edo state.

Findings indicated that Industrial training in Home Economics plays a crucial role in instilling Entrepreneurial skills in students. The reasons are that it provides students with practical skills and provides hands on experience for entrepreneurial skills development. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that Industrial Training in Home Economics significantly promotes the entrepreneurial skills development of students.
