ABSTRACT

The study investigates the incidence of adult education delinquencies in Benin Metropolis.. In order to achieve this purpose five (5) research questions were raised to guide the study.

A sample size of four hundred and thirty (430) respondents which comprise of three Hundred and Ninety Nine adult learners (399) and thirty one (31) facilitators from three local government areas with functioning learning centres in Benin Metropolis were made use of. The entire population of four hundred and Thirty was utilized as the sample size and therefore no sampling was done since the size was found to be manageable. Questionnaire was the major instrument used for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using Frequency count and simple percentage.

 Findings of the study revealed that the common forms of delinquent behaviours exhibited by adult learners in adult education centres in Benin Metropolis are; Noise making, examination malpractices, going late to literacy centres, talking in examination hall and leaving school without permission. It was also revealed that the demographic variables of age, sex, family-type and class influence delinquent behaviours among adults learners in adult education centres. Based on the conclusion drawn from the findings, it was recommendations that awareness should be created on the existence of incidents of delinquent behaviours in adult education centres. It was further recommended that strong counseling unit to be established in each centre by the government in order to ameliorate adults delinquent behaviour and academic problems.
