SUMMARY
The study aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with opioid abuse among final year students of University of Benin and it can be concluded that; The prevalence of opioid abuse among final year students of University of Benin is 26%. Among final year students of University of Benin, 43.6% consume opioids for recreational purposes at least once a month. Both genders use opioids for recreational purposes but males make up a greater proportion of opioid abusers. Peer pressure is a major factor associated with opioid abuse. It influences the incidence of opioid abuse and also provides a source for these substances. Opioid abuse among students is a major cause of poor class attendance and missed tests and exams.
