ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research project is to look at the vast scope of the delayed justice system in Africa. The causes and the consequences and not to forget the devastating effect on the psychological and emotional being on the individual and the society as a whole. The law which is suppose to be a protector of the individual and minorities from tyranny of the majority is now used as the perfect tool for oppressing the weak and vulnerable. A well functioning judiciary is a central element of the society. It is the sole adjudicator over the political, social and economic spheres. Judiciaries in many African countries suffer from backlogs, delays and corruption. In countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, and Uganda, speedy resolution of disputes is increasingly elusive, which creates skpeticism in the common man whether there can be justice, fairness, equity and truth through the law.
