ABSTRACT

Inflammation is a complicated physiologic reaction of vascular tissues to aggressive substances like infections, irritants and damaged cells. We evaluated the in vitro anti-inflammatory effect of the stem bark methanol extract of Anthocleista djalonensis at concentration of 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500µg/ml. Assay for in vitro membrane stabilization, proteinase inhibitory activity and protein denaturation were used as markers of inflammation. The methanol stem extract of the Anthoceista djalonensis was prepared by soaking 286.86 grams of dried powdered stem in 3.3 liters of methanol for 72 hours with regular stirring. The mixture was then filtered with a muslin cloth and concentrated using a rotary evaporator and subjected to freeze drying to obtain the powdered form.
