ABSTRACT

This project work is on improvement of bearing capacity of sandy soil by grouting. The construction of structure on weak ground often requires the soil to be improved in order to ensure the safety and the stability of surrounding buildings. Soil stabilization with content grouts injected under pressure has come into wide spread use in construction. In mining for the opening of shafts, side drifts, and other workings; and in foundation engineering for the reinforcement of existing foundations beneath buildings and structures as well strengthening the soils in their beds.

The sample was subjected to various tests such as Compaction test to determine the optimum moisture and the maximum dry density the soil, California Bearing Ratio (CBR) at the optimum moisture content, Atterberg Limit Test to determine the liquid limit and plastic limit of the soil, Sieve Analysis Test to, and Specific gravity of the soil. In relation to the subject matter, view of some scholars and authors were reviewed and the data collected which are presented and analyzed accordingly.

The result shows that the maximum bearing capacity achieved by maximum compaction in the laboratory is only 39.45% that may not be sufficient for foundation but can be adequate for concrete wall slab. The Moisture content of the soil is 28.1%, Specific Gravity of 2.71%, Liquid limit 30.0%, Plastic limit 10.94%, Plasticity Index 19.06%and Sieve analysis of 21.8%.
