ABSTRACT

Since the beginning of creation, humans have always involved themselves in movement activities and this has been a major feature in the history of Africa and the entire globe and Nigeria has become increasingly involved in migration to Europe, the USA, Asia and South Africa at least since the 90s. However, the research work looks that the implication of international Migration Among Benin Youths in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. This study adopted the descriptive research design; the study population of this study comprised youth in Egor Local Government in Edo State. The sample size for the study was 140 participants and was selected through the multistage sampling procedure. A structured questionnaire was designed and the instrument was validated through reliability testing. The questionnaires were administered to the youth in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. The completed ones were retrieved, coded and analysed using frequency counts and simple percentages, means and Standard Derivation. The results of the study among others revealed that: Quest for better living standard is a leading cause of youth illegal migration, The need for better employment opportunities increases youth engagement in illegal migration, High rate of insecurity in the nation can lead to illegal migration etc, are the major causes of migration of Egor youth to Europe. It was recommended that government should make a deliberate attempt to providing sustainable employment for her citizens in other to eliminating illegal migration.
