 ABSTRACT

This study was on the "Impact of the Implementation of Hygiene Practices and Students Learning Outcomes in Public Secondary Schools in Benin Metropolis". The main focus of this survey was on Ovia North East Local Government Area, Edo State. The aim of this study was to find out the extent to which the student knows about hygiene, to know how well and the student's level of hygiene practices, to know if schools have been of help in aiding hygiene practices and the challenges faced by the students. To guide this study, four research questions were generated. The research method used was a descriptive survey method while the questionnaire was the research instrument. Findings from this research shows that students know and practice hygiene to an extent but more teaching about hygiene is needed for these students for improvement, the state of some schools in terms of availability of some facilities that promote hygiene is discouraging and lack of funds among other issues that have hindered the student from practicing hygiene. From findings of this research, it was recommended that parents should do more of instilling the habit of hygiene on their children at home as this serves as a foundation, schools should provide these facilities needed for hygiene practices around the school premises and government should employ more health teachers and also assist the schools in providing these needed facilities.
