ABSTRACT

This research project is titled Impact of Social Interactions on the Academic Performance of Adult Learners: a case study of adult learners in Benin Metropolis. The major aim of this study is ascertain the impacts social interactions has academic performance of adult learners.

As a consequent of above, the review of related literatures was done to provide a good basis for the conclusion of this work. Similarly, the descriptive survey research design was employed and to ensure the attainment of the general aim, five (5) research questions were raised and the questionnaire which was tested and validated was adopted as the instrument for data collection. The data collected from the questionnaire were analyzed using simple percentage and frequency count.

The findings of this study revealed that social interactions have indeed impacts on the academic performance of adult learners. It was uncovered that social interactions like role of adult learners as workers, parents and as a member of a one social group or the other challenges with their learning. The findings also proved that the relationship between facilitators and learners, and communication network in the learning centre along with infrastructures has no little on the motivation of the learners and invariably their academic performance. The study then recommended among others that instructors in adult learning programmes should be well grounded in the content they intend to teach and should be also topnotch communication skills.
