ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine the impact of the work environment on the well-being of road traffic officers in the Benin metropolis. Three research questions were raised and analyzed for the study. The descriptive survey research design was used for this study. The population for this study was five hundred and fifty-five (555) traffic officers in Benin City. A sample size of one hundred and sixty-seven (167) officers was used for the study. The instrument used for the study was a questionnaire designed by the researcher, validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two experts from the Department of Health, Safety and Environmental Education. The reliability of the instrument was established using the test-retest method. The instrument was administered by the researcher and the data collected was subjected to descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentage Distribution. The findings of the study reveals that majority of the officers affirmed that the work environment affected their well-being negatively due to the lack of adequate equipment and rest areas, irregular work schedules and harassment from motorists, they also emphasized that factors such as environmental hazards. Lack of respect from motorists, inadequate equipment and the prevalence of corruption in the system made the job frustrating and strenuous. It was therefore recommended among others that there should be regular briefings to help enhance well-being of officers'
