ABSTRACT
Trade union has been undeniably regarded as an important if not the most important instrumental asset which organization use in achieving growth in the establishment. This study examines the impact of trade union on workers commitment and organisational productivity. The population of the study was made up of one hundred members of NUT Benin chapter who are teachers in government owned primary and secondary schools. The study employed the use of questionnaire which was distributed across five secondary schools and Three primary schools in Benin city, in the collection of primary data. The study employed the use of descriptive and inferential analysis in analyzing the data obtained. A mean rating of 2.50 was used for the decision point and 5% (0.50) was used to check the level of significance. The result obtained from this study provide empirical evidence of the significance and positive relationship between trade union, workers commitment and organisational productivity, it also revealed that the perception of trade union is a necessary mean of achieving commitment among teachers. The connection between trade union, workers commitment and organisational productivity highlights the multi-faced benefit that trade union can bring to an organization. It was recommended that both management and trade union should prioritize open and transparent communication to address concern and disputes promptly. Also trade union leaders should undergo training in negotiation and conflict resolution to effectively represent workers interest while minimizing disruption to organizational productivity.
