ABSTRACT

The study evaluates the Impact of free public transport policy on citizens livelihood in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Other objectives are, to find out how the citizen livelihood in Oredo has been affected positively by Edo State free transportation policy, to determine the role of free transport policy on social life of citizen of Oredo Local Government Area, to determine if free transportation reduce poverty and increase good healthcare and services in Oredo Local Government Area, and to evaluate the impact of free transportation on the private business in Oredo Local Government Area. Questionnaire was used as the instrument in this study to collect data. the 400 sample size was distributed among six(6) wards from the twelve (12) wards in Oredo LGA. These wards are, New Benin I, New Benin II, Ibiwe, GRA/Etete, Ogbe, Ikpema/Eguabase. The simple percentage which is a descriptive tool for statistics was used for initial analysis, while the chi – square which is an inferential tool was employed in testing the hypotheses generated from the survey. The finding showed that Free transportation in Edo State has significant affected the livelihood of citizen of Oredo Local Government Area. Free transport policy was discovered to have significant role play on the social life of citizen of Oredo Local Government Area, free transportation in Edo State reduce poverty and increase good healthcare services. Free transportation contributed to the growth and development of private business in Oredo Local Government Area. The study therefore recommend that Edo state government should continue to initiate more policy that will contribute toward the growth and development of transportation in the state to increase the livelihood of citizen.
