ABSTRACT
The study investigated the impact of teachers' welfare packages on teachers' job satisfaction in public senior secondary schools in Edo State. The sample population was 140 teachers randomly selected from 28 public senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State in the proportion of twenty teachers from each school in the seven schools selected. The researcher constructed a questionnaire that was used to obtain responses from the respondents. The instrument was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other lecturers in the Department of Educational Management (DEM), Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained through test-retest procedure to be 0.89 coefficient using Pearson product moment correlation coefficient. Data collected were analyzed using the mean ratings. The results of the analysis show that teachers' job satisfaction and welfare packages are moderate in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Also, there existed a significant positive relationship between the teachers' welfare packages and teachers' job satisfaction. Consequently, the researcher recommended among other things, that teachers' salaries and allowances be regularly provided in time and school administrators should always reward teachers' performance in order to optimize teachers commitment, creativity and achievement.
