ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to examine the influence of sports participation on the levels of self-esteem and self-confidence among students enrolled at the University of Benin. During the course of the study, a total of 8 research questions and 8 hypotheses were formulated. The study employed a correlation research design. The study's population comprised 307 students from the Department of Human Kinetics and Sports Science at the Faculty of Education at the University of Benin. The sample procedures employed were multistage sampling, which divided the population into males and females, and proportional random sampling, which selected 30% of the male and female population. The sample size was 92, including 64 females and 28 men. The participants completed a self-structured questionnaire that had been verified by professionals in the department of Human Kinetics and Sports Science. The researcher delivered this research instrument. The data was analyzed using frequency, percentages, multistage regression, and Pearson's product correlation coefficient. The study was able to find out how sports engagement might affect and boost students' self esteem and self confidence. The study revealed that male students demonstrate a somewhat elevated degree of self-esteem and self-confidence compared to female students, which can be attributed to their involvement in sports.
