ABSTRACT
Air is the most vital of the substances required daily for healthy living. The quality of air in an environment is influenced by so many anthropogenic and natural factors. In this study, the impact of speed bumps on the atmospheric levels of PM1, PM2.5, PM10, CO and Noise was evaluated along Ugbowo - Oluku arterial road. The air quality data and meteorological parameters were captured in the months of February and March, 2024 at the six created sampling sites. The data were measured at a height of between 1.5-2.0m using calibrated hand-held meters specific for each parameter. Excessive levels of the particulate matter fractions were obtained with mean PM1 range of 16.75 to 56.30µg/m3 , mean PM2.5 range of 27.03 to 105.45µg/m3 , and mean PM10 range of 34.4 to 141.45µg/m3 . The CO values varied from 2.15 to 19.95ppm while the Noise level ranged from 32.45 to 76.74dB. Almost all the parameters measured violated their regulatory limits. The spatial variations conducted to establish the impacts of the speed bumps on the concentrations of the air pollution indicators, revealed a significant impact. Higher levels of PM1, PM2.5, PM10, CO, and Noise were reported for the three locations with bumps. During the study, the ambient temperature and humidity were observed to be high with low wind speed.
