Abstract
This study investigated the impact of social media on the voting patterns of students at the University of Benin, Benin City. This study adopted a descriptive research design to construct this project. Among the respondents a total sample size of 84 respondents was taken. The collected data were analyzed using frequencies and simple percentages.
Investigations have revealed that social media played a major role in the massive mobilization of voters in the 2023 presidential election held at the University of Benin, Benin City. Social media has been found to have had a significant impact on voting patterns in the 2023 presidential election at the University of Benin, Benin City.
The study recommends that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) adopt an electronic voting system to enable young people who cannot physically go out to vote to vote online. It was also recommended that political parties, politicians, government agencies and ministers establish a strong and effective social media platform to inform and educate the youth.
