ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the impacts of SIWES training on undergraduate’sskills acquisition and academic performance of Business Education students. This 11 research adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population for this study consists of 394 full-time students in 300 level and 400 level Business Education, University of Benin, and Ambrose Ali university, Ekpoma. A sample size of 200 students was selected for the purpose of this study. The research instrument used to collect data for the study was a structured questionnaire. The validity of instrument was ascertained by three experts: two were from the Department of vocational technical education while the other was from the Department of Measurement and Evaluation, University of Benin. The reliability of the Instrument for the study was measured using Cronbach alpha statistic. The Instrument was administered to 20 respondents who were not part of the study population. The instrument yielded an alpha value of 0.84 which indicated that the items were all reliable. The questionnaire was analysed using Mean and Standard Deviation. The findings indicated that SIWES training influenced Business Education students use of technology gadgets to a high extent and SIWES training influenced Business Education students use of leadership skill to a high extent among others. Based on this findings, the researcher recommends that institutions should link learners up with firms with reliable and standard work place for Industrial experience to enable candidates consolidate their experience evenly and SIWES should be properly organized so that students can be appropriately placed in organizations that are related to their Course of study.
