ABSTRACT

The study focuses on the Impact of Sexuality Education in Reducing Unprotected Intercourse Among Undergraduates of University of Benin, to make it possible four purpose of the study were raised to Investigate the challenges of unprotected sex faced by University of Benin students, Investigate the factors responsible for unwanted pregnancy in university of Benin students, Ascertain the psychological effect of unwanted pregnancy and STIs on students’ performance in University of Benin students and Examine why students engage in unprotected sex.  

The study adopted a descriptive survey research design method with survey instruments deployed to gather relevant data for analysis. Simple random, stratified and purposive sampling technique was used to select one hundred and fifty (150) accessible respondents for the study. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire; it was a self-designed instrument, built around the research questions and was validated by the researcher's.  The data collected for the research question was analyzed using the method of frequency and percentage.

The study concludes that unprotected sex affect students’ academic performance as some think about it in class, some fail to concentrate in class while some feel emotionally unstable after unprotected sex and that Ignorance of un-protected sex, Rape, Lack of contraceptives use and Lack of sex education is responsible for unwanted pregnancy. The study therefore recommends that Sex education should be part of school curriculum. Orientation on sex education matters should be taught even at university level and Parents and guidance are the primary agents of socialization they should develop good communication skills with their children and openly inform them Abstinence and sex education should be adopted at all levels of education.
