The study investigated how the location of schools impacts the academic performance of students in public junior secondary schools within Egor local government area of Edo State. Three research questions were formulated and all were hypothesized at a significance level of 0.05.
A descriptive survey research design utilizing ex-post-facto methodology was employed for data collection. The study population included 3216 students across 13 public junior secondary schools in the specified area. A sample of 633 students from 3 public junior secondary schools was chosen using purposive sampling. Data collection was done using a checklist called the Student Academic Performance Assessment Checklist (SAPAC). Statistical analysis was carried out on the data using t-test statistics at the 0.05 significance level.
The study's recommendations, based on its findings and in line with the objectives of secondary education in the National Policy on Education, suggest that the government should enhance school facilities, particularly in rural areas, and that the State Universal Basic Education Board should recruit and assign more teachers to rural schools..
