ABSTRACT
This study was designed to examine the impact of qualified teachers and effective teaching on students’ and of comprehension in English language in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Questionnaires were administered to ninety secondary school students and ten teachers in Oredo.
The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The simple random sampling technique was used. Also the test – retest reliability was used. The simple percentage was used in the presentation of data. The result from the presentation showed that the inadequacy of learning facilities and teaching aids makes teaching of English difficult and ineffective on the part of the teacher, while the students may not comprehend what has being taught.
Based on the findings of this work, it was recommended that teachers should encourage the students to read because reading in English improves comprehension skills. And also, learning facilities should be built and equipped for the effective teaching of English language.
