ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to investigate the impact of parent’s educational background on the social and moral development of their primary school children in Oredo local government area, Edo state. The purpose of this study was to help parents identify their role in the social and moral development of their children. To guild the study, four research questions were raised and answered. The Instrument used for the study was a questionnaire. The validity and reliability of the Instrument were ascertained by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts in early childhood education, while the Cronbach Alpha was used to ascertain the reliability of the Instrument. The findings of the data collected reveals that parents educational background has a strong impact on the social development of their children but not on the moral development of their primary school children. It was recommended that parents should model good behaviours in their children, parents should pay attention to the social aspect of their children’s development and everyone should be educated to meet the changes demands by the complex society.
