ABSTRACT
In today's world, the inclusion of nudity in music videos is common. Despite Nigeria enforcing censorship on mainstream television for content it considers inappropriate, online channels like YouTube and others make it easy for the people to access these videos. The youth are especially affected by this show of nudity and this is very evident in the increasing tendency to near nudity and indecent dressing amongst youths. As frightening as this reality sounds, scholarly attention on the issue, especially on the Nigerian experience, is scant and far between. This study thus investigated the effects exposure to nudity in music videos on the youth in Nigeria in the hope of enriching available literature on the subject matter.to achieve ts objective, the study adopted the survey method. To this end, 200 undergraduate students were selected from the Ekenwan Campus of the University of Benin, Benin City, for sampling. Results showed that the impact of nudity in music videos on youths in Nigeria is significant. The finding is therefore worrisome. The study, among other things, recommended that what is required is a legal framework that could prescribe serious ban (even if for a specific period) of any artists found wanting from all forms of public performances in the country.
