SUMMARY
This chapter ties up the major points in this research work. This work has demonstrated the National Youth Service Corp has impacted on national development. The condition of which they were established and their role in broad based information, in bid to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the country after the Nigerian Civil war. However, few works have been written on the socio-economic and political impact of NYSC on national development. This research work seeks to examine how NYSC has help to create and general employment opportunities for Nigerian youth, and promote the social welfare on the citizen of the country.
First session provides an introduction to the background to the study, stating the relevance of this study, with its aim and objectives, justification of this research, the methodology used in carrying out this research, the scope of the research and various literature reviewed in relation to this study.
The study examines the origin, nature, manifestations and operational mode of NYSC in Nigeria. it interrogated the aims and objectives of the scheme, organizational structure and mode of operations. It will also highlight the challenges of the face in NYSC. The work further capture how the scheme was established by decree No. 24 of 22nd May 1973 which stated that NYSC is being established “with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity” and the primary purpose of the scheme according to the NYSC web (Nationa Youth Service Corps , n.d.) is primarily to inculcate in Nigerian Youths the Spirit of selfless service to the community and to emphasize the spirit of oneness and brotherhood of all Nigerians.
