ABSTRACT
The study explored the impact of modern technology on crime rate in Benin metropolis.
The specific purpose was to determine whether modern technology is accessible to security operatives in Benin City, ascertain how effective this equipment are in fighting crime in Benin metropolis, examine the impact of modern technology on crime rate in Benin Metropolis, ascertain how modern technology has aid in minimizing crime in Benin Metropolis
and hypotheses was raised to guide this study. The survey method was adopted. A sample of 322 police officers was drawn from the population of 1774 police officers in Benin metropolis was used in the study. The reliability of the instrument used for the survey was tested and yielded an index of (0.866). The data was analyzed using frequency counts, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Spearman’s rho Correlation was applied to test the hypothesis. The results of analysis revealed that most security operatives in Benin metropolis do not have access to modern equipments but have a positive perception that modern technology helps in combating crime in Benin metropolis. Most security operatives in Benin metropolis believed that modern technology has a positive effect on crime rate hence minimize crime in Benin metropolis.
This study concludes that security operatives in Benin metropolis though lacks adequate modern equipments but were suitably motivated to embrace the use modern equipment as in their opinion will be helpful in combating crimes and reduce the menace criminal activities in Benin metropolis. Finally, recommendations were proffered.
