ABSTRACT

This study helps to ascertain importance of home economics study as an entrepreneurship development for home economics undergraduate. The purpose of this study was to assess the impacts of the use of home economics laboratory facilities in senior secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area, Weather laboratory facilities are available in secondary schools in Ovia north East, the impact of laboratory on student practical skills in home economics among secondary school students and if home economics student perform better in home economics with laboratories facility

Various study was reviewed by several authors, the study employed survey research design to accomplish the objectives of the study. The population of the study consists of thirty-five (45) home economics teachers from twenty-nine (29) secondary school in Ovia North East and the sample size of twenty-five (25) selected teachers for the study. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire. The questionnaire developed by the researcher and was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts from the Department of Vocational and Technical Education. The reliability coefficient was 0.72 using Pearson Product Moment Correlation method. The data collected were analyzed statistically using the statistical package of social sciences (SPSS) software.

The findings show that the impacts of the use of home economics laboratory facilities in senior secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area is relatively high and that laboratory facilities available in secondary schools in Ovia north East is low. The study also shows that the impact of laboratory on student practical skills in home economics among secondary school students is of a high extent and also that home economics student perform better in home economics with laboratories facility is of a high extent. Conclusions were made and the study recommend that laboratory facility help to facilitate student academic achievement in home economics and Home economics is a practical subject and cannot occur in vacuum, principle should always seek free grant from government, alumina and old student association to enable them properly equip it laboratory facility to a modern standard.
