ABSTRACT

This study is to investigate the Impact of instructional materials in teaching and learning of Respiratory system among Biology students in Oredo local government area of Edo state. Three research questions were raised in order to carry out this study.

Data were collected through questionnaire that were randomly distributed to ten schools in the Local Government Area. The techniques used for analysis were the simple frequency, percentage and mean based on a four point Likert scale. The population of the study was 14639 but the sample was 100 students randomly selected. Ten (10) schools were randomly selected from the thirteen (13) Senior Secondary Schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.

To ascertain the reliability of the instrument, cronbach’s alpha (x) was carried out on twenty (20) biology students from a mixed public senior secondary school.

Based on the research it was discovered that Instructional materials create positive impact on students when learning Respiratory system in Biology. Secondly, The use of instructional materials arouses students interest to learn Respiratory system. Lastly, instructional materials facilitates student learning of Respiratory system in Biology. The use of Instructional materials in teaching Respiration is recommended in teaching and learning of Respiration system in Biology in all public senior secondary schools.
