ABSTRACT
Having gone thus far, the study reveals that 92.3 FM Independent radio, "Man around town"is truly hyper- commercialized, this is based on the fact that a large percentage of Benin residents are able to point out that the programme's time is filled with advertisement. However, the residents do not see this as a problem, they are enlightened about the products and services they utilize through the adverts aired on "Man around town". Residents are of the standpoint that the programme " Man around town" and the station, Independent radio, needs all the funds and sponsorships they can get to keep the station and programme running. However, it is important to note that as much as the residents of Benin understand the programme's need to sell an excessive amount of airtime for adverts, this also disturbs the enjoyability of the programme as most persons get tired or loose interest in content of "Man around town". Therefore, it is safe to conclude that "Man around town" would have to strike a balance between getting funds for the station and performing their basic function of informing, educating and entertaining its listeners.
