ABSTRACT

This study explores the intricate relationship between hydration and exercise recovery, emphasizing the challenges of electrolyte replacement. It highlights the importance of rapid fluid balance restoration post-exercise, especially in hot conditions. While individual sweat composition varies, moderate salt intake is beneficial for hydration, provided fluid intake exceeds sweat loss. Rehydration beverages should contain high sodium levels and a small amount of carbohydrate for optimal absorption. Palatability is crucial, and electrolyte inclusion becomes essential when solid food intake is limited. Failure to achieve complete rehydration can impair subsequent performance. This study underscores the need for tailored rehydration strategies to optimize recovery and enhance exercise outcomes. The study particularly analyzed students’ awareness, the impact of hydration on post-exercise recovery of students as well as it’s challenges. Research survey was carried out by administering questionnaires to 156 students. The data obtained from the questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as mean and percentage. The study revealed that a large number of Human Kinetics students are aware of the importance of hydration on post-exercise recovery. However, the need to implement educational programs or workshops on hydration is paramount this is because the study found out that discomfort from frequent urination makes students to dislike hydrating. The study therefore recommend collaboration with university health services or athletic departments to offer personalized hydration assessments and recommendations for students, taking into account individual differences in fluid needs and exercise routines.
