ABSTRACTThe study investigated the impact of guidance and counselling on students’academic performance in public senior secondary schools in Ovia North East LocalGovernment Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four researchquestions were raised and examined. The sample size for the study was made up of 200SS2 students. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The descriptivesurvey research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of data was done usingmeanandstandarddeviation.The findings from the study include that the nature and types of guidance andcounselling services available in public senior secondary schools in Ovia North EastLocal Government Area of Edo State include appraisal services, counselling service,orientation services and placement and follow-up services. It was concluded that there isa high impact of guidance and counselling on students’ participation in classroomactivities, career development and academic performance in public senior secondaryschoolsinOviaNorthEastLocalGovernmentAreaofEdoState.The study recommended among others that school counsellors should put moreeffort into making the effect of counselling on academic performance known to thestudents.Thecounsellorshouldprovidestudentswithavarietyofeducationopportunitiesbyorganizingmotivationalcareerconference.
