ABSTRACT
The study investigated the impact of good school community relationship in the effective management of public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Four research questions were raised. The descriptive survey research which adopted the correlational research design was employed in this study. The population of this study covered all the fifteen (15) public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State and the three hundred and fifty (350) teachers in the fifteen (15) public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State were the respondents. The sample size comprised of three hundred (300) teachers in ten public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo state. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire which was distributed to the respondents. The instrument was retrieved and analyzed using tables, frequency count and simple percentages to answer research question 1, 2, 3 and 4. The study revealed that good school community relationship promotes active involvement of stakeholders in public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The study also revealed that good school community relationship promotes open communication among stakeholders which facilitate the sharing of ideas, concerns and feedback in most public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The findings also point out that good school community relationship can also be encouraged through parents and community to participate in school activities in public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Based on the findings, it was concluded that good school community relationship had impact on the effective management of public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State because through good school community relationship student achievement, teacher development and community participation were positively affected through financial support, infrastructural provisions and academic materials made available by the community. Also, good school community relationship enables parents and guardians to participate actively in school activities, by this involvement it can lead to better student attendance, improved behavior and enhanced performance due to increase in accountability and collaborative approach to students’ development. In recommendation, there should be transparent channels for communication between the school and the community by using newsletters, social media, and community meetings to keep everyone informed and engaged. Stakeholders including parents, local businesses, and community leaders should be involve in decision-making processes. Community events that bring together students, parents, and community members, such as school fairs, volunteer days, or educational workshops, these events can strengthen bonds and create mutual understanding between the school and community. Partnerships with local businesses, non-profits, and other organizations to support school programmers and provide additional resources or opportunities for students. Staff and educators can be train in community engagement strategies and cultural competence to improve interactions with diverse community members.
