ABSTRACT
The rate of the spread of fake news during the 2015 presidential election was very high in the five selected local government areas of Egor, Oredo, Ovia North-Easth, Ovia South-Easth, and local government Areas to the extent of 82 percent of the respondent were unable to tell if some of the news reaching them were fake or genuine. We also saw that most of the respondents get their news from social media and most were unable to verify the authenticity of the news reaching them through question 5 in the questionnaire. Furthermore, most Were unwilling to verify the authenticity of some of the news reaching them as seen from the fact that 72 of the respondent representing 72% replied no that they didn't verify the news reaching them most of the time.
