IMPACT OF EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE ON STUDENTS LEARNING CULTURE AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN OVIA NORTH EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This focus of this study is to ascertain the prevailing attitude, behaviours, practices and impact of examination malpractice on students learning culture among secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The descriptive research survey was utilized in this project to gather data. A sample of one hundred and thirty six Students from five secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. To collect and gather data using a research instrument, a self-administered questionnaire was designed to sought information from the students in the sampled schools with regards to the impact of examination malpractice. The instrument was retrieved and analyzed using mean and standard deviation.

The finding of this study suggest a high and notably positive attitude towards examination malpractice among public senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The study also shows that Students level of learning culture is very low among public senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Lastly, the study shows that students' attitude to examination malpractice has an impact on Students'performance among public senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Based on this findings, it was recommended among others that less emphasis should be placed on Certificate and paper qualifications; examination officials should be well compensated and teachers should be fully empowered.
