ABSTRACT

The study investigates the impact of electoral systems on representation and governance: a case study of oredo local government area of Edo State. The study used a descriptive research design and primary and secondary sources of data to examine the weak electoral system in Nigeria and The findings of the study revealed that increasing transparency and accountability in electoral processes can address weaknesses in Nigeria's electoral system. Therefore, the study recommends that Nigeria should hold free and fair elections. The body tasked with organizing and holding regular elections must adhere to its primary mission and recognize that it acts as an umpire. By doing this, the Nigerian electoral process will rank among the best in the world and have a highly developed political system.
