Abstract
The study assesses the availability and utilization of instructional resources in Adult literacy programmes in literacy centers in Egor local government area of Edo state. To achieve the purpose of the Study, four research questions were raised and answered.
The study adopted the descriptive survey research method. The sample size for the study was made up of 200 respondents selected from five literacy centers in Egor local government area of Edo state. The four research questions for the study were analysed using the frequency count, percentage and mean score analysis.
The findings from the study include primers, flowchart, supplementary reading materials, placards, television, radio and tape recorder are the Instructional resources used in literacy programmes in Egor Local Government area of Edo state. It was also revealed that funding constraints, government bureaucratic procedures, lack of resources for storing instructional resources, lack of community involvement and lack of qualified facilitators are the challenges faced by facilitators in utilizing instructional materials. It was recommended that, being that the extent to which facilitators in literacy centers utilize instructional materials is high, the government therefore need to enforce the proper and adequate use of instructional resources in literacy centers. It is further recommended that government and non-governmental organizations to see to how instructional resources like primer are adequately available and utilized.
