ABSTRACT
This study investigates the impact of COVID-19 on the livelihood sustainability of women in Oredo local government area of Edo State. Four (4) research questions were raised to guide the study.
A sample of three Hundred (300) respondents from the entire population of the inhabitants of Oredo local government area of Edo State where selected for the study through Purposive sampling techniques. Questionnaire was the major instrument used for data collection. The questionnaire was designed and validated by experts in the department of Adult and Non-formal Education, Faculty of Education University of Benin. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques such as tables, frequencies counts, and simple percentages
Findings of the study revealed that most women working in the formal sector were required to work online from home without the essential gadgets or electricity to perform the assigned tasks
It was further revealed that COVID-19 pandemic prevented women from accessing essential facilities like education and health care, prevented women in the rural movement of their farm produce to the consumers in the urban cities and that majority of women spent more on generation of their own power to enable the smooth operations of their entrepreneurial businesses from home
It was further recommended that the survivors and others directly affected by the disease must be assisted to regain their dignity and the affected communities. It was also recommended that more awareness should be created by way of publicity in the various media outlets, using jingles and other forms of advertisement to change the perception of people as regard the existence Covid-19
