ABSTRACT
This study evaluated the impact of administrative effectiveness on the learning outcomes in Basic schools in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State. This study used a descriptive survey design and administered self structured four Point Likert Scale questionnaire to 24 teachers from Basic schools in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, with response scale of strongly agree, agree, disagree and strongly disagree. The learning outcomes of the students was determined by collecting the average score of the students in each of the sampled school for the previous Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).A total of Eight (8) Basic Schools were sampled. The responses were analysed using weighted means and standard deviation. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse the research questions. Pearson Product Moment Coefficient (PPMC) was used to test the hypothesis for this study.
Findings from the study revealed that There is a high level of administrative strategies of principals in Basic Schools in Isoko South Local Government Area. The academic performance of basic school students in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State was exceptionally high. Besides, there is significant relationship between Administrative Strategies of principals and Academic Performance of Students in Basic Schools in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State. The study concluded that administrative effectiveness has a significant impact on the learning outcomes in Basic schools in Isoko South Local Government Area.
Based on the findings, the study recommended continuous professional development programs for principals to maintain and enhance effective administrative strategies. It also suggested regular curriculum reviews and the incorporation of modern teaching aids and interactive learning approaches to sustain high academic performance. Also, the study recommended that policymakers support and empower principals with the necessary resources and autonomy to implement effective administrative strategies, ensuring sustained academic excellence.
The study contributed to knowledge by providing empirical evidence on the significant relationship between administrative effectiveness and student academic performance in Basic schools. It highlighted the role of school leadership in educational outcomes and points out to the importance of effective administrative strategies in fostering high academic achievement. The study also sets a foundation for future research to explore the long-term impact of administrative effectiveness on learning outcomes in Basic schools in different regions.
