ABSTRACT
This research work examines the nature of illegal migration under the back drop of some legal frameworks designed by various countries to protect their borders against illegal migrants. This research has shown that illegal migration is a global issue that the world pays utmost attention to. This work also examines the causes of illegal migration and the effects that it has on both the sending and receiving state. International instruments have also taken the liberty to point out that while countries protect their borders from illegal migrants they should also take care that the human rights of these individuals are not abused in any way. Especially by the law enforcement officials who are mandated to implement the migration laws of the various countries. This work therefore recommends and concludes that countries should adopt laws and policies that do not abuse the human rights of illegal migrants in the process of implementation of their laws.
