ABSTRACT
This study describes the use of language to convey ideophonic imagery as expressed by the reader's in the poem, "Ogolo N'Arhuaro". The study seeks to identify the types of ideophonic imagery, as well as some figures of speech expressed in the poem, with a view to identify the overriding theme of the poem. Data was collected using a secondary means, using the book "Poems in Benin" which the reader read extensively with the different literary devices identified and written out for analysis. The data collected were expressed and organized into different groups. The findings from this research is that the author uses a lot of imagery and examples to describe the sensory emotions for the reader, and also figurative language is used in the analysis, by comparing an inanimate object to a living thing, and also creating a particular mood in the text
