ABSTRACT
The focus of this study is on the linguistics status of ideophones in the Edo language spoken in the western part of Nigeria. The Edo language used among the seven major areas in Edo state the main aim of this study is to look at how ideophones are formed in the language and the class they belong. Data were obtained through oral interview which were collected from the native speakers of the language whose age range fall within 30-70yrs. This research work is guided by a descriptive approach and the analysis of the research reveals that ideophones are language specific. Ideophones are formed through reduplication and it belongs to category of verbal units. Adverbial unit and adjectives this study therefore serves as an addition document in the Edo language
