Summary

This chapter discussed the review of relevant literature related to this study. They are the problems affecting the teaching of English language among which are poor pedagogical skills, deficiency in the curriculum, inadequate and inqualified teachers to mention but a few. The review also highlighted on the importance of studying English language such as inculcation of national and patrirotism on the part of the students, broadening their horizon of knowledge on past events, inculcation of creative skills amongst others. The literature review also highlighted on the strategies for improving the status of English language in our schools such as counseling, parental guidance, orientation on the benefits derived from the study of English language.

However, it is pertinent to note that there is a gap to be filled as regards the fact that not much work has been done by scholars on this topic hence the present researcher seeks to fill such gap.
