ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to determine personality traits and it's association with dietary habits in a tertiary institution in Edo State. The study employed was a cross sectional descriptive research design. The department of Nursing in University of Benin , Benin City was used as the iv research setting. The objective of this research work aims at determining the personality traits, assess the dietary habits and identify the factors Influencing dietary habits. The target population for this study consisted of 319 students with a minimum sample size of 195 students (calculated using the Taro Yammane formula). This was arrived at using convenience nonprobability sampling technique. A well-structured questionnaire which was developed by Morizot (2014) was used to obtain data relevant to the research objectives. Parameters on social demographical characteristics, personality traits according to the Five - Factor Model, dietary habits that is most common with students and factors that influences dietary habits. The data were analyzed using mean , frequency and percentage and the hypotheses was tested using the Chi-square test. The level of significance was set at p<0.05. The procedure was carried out using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 24.0 to analyse the data. The result of the findings showed that there is no association between personality traits and dietary habits among undergraduate .In conclusion ,most of the students have extroversion personality trait , the dietary habits of students includes missing breakfast, junks and taking carbonated sugar coated drink, Lack of cooking skills, loneliness, academic stress etc are all factors influencing the dietary habits of students.
