ABSTRACT

This study has been the satiric response of Raji to political and religious issues. A close look at the poet’s verses reveals his mastery of language in mocking these scornful attitudes.

In the first place, Raji’s ridicule of politician is quite fascinating. The satiric attack on this set of individuals is loaded with comical language. In particular, the poet uses former U.S President Bill Clinton as a case in point to make derogatory suggestion at the folly of politicians. In this case the poet satirise the political lies that pervade the world of politics. The ironical language of Raji is one fundamental point that evokes biting laughter at the vice of politicians. Suffice it to say it is this comical insight that Raji uses to elevate the political class to sainthood. In a similar manner, one cannot ignore the mockery of African politicians who engage in all sorts of electoral violence and rigging tactics in order to assume political power. The most impressive satiric weapon that effectively captures this political game of amusement is the poets use of boxing imagery. It is through this poetic insight that Raji’s comical demonstration of African politicians is effectively underscored.
