ABSTRACT

The study examined the impact of human resource management practices on employees’ performance in quoted companies in Nigeria. The specific objectives were to investigate the relationship between recruitment and selection, compensation, human resource planning, performance appraisal, training and development and employees’ performance in quoted companies in Edo and Delta States, Nigeria.

The study adopted survey research design. Population of the study was one thousand, three hundred (1,300) employees, while sample size was two hundred and fifty (250). Data was generated through structured questionnaire administration. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics.  Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used to analyse the data.

The study found that recruitment and selection, compensation system, human resource planning, and performance appraisal were significant predictors of employees’ performance in quoted companies in Edo and Delta States. Human resource planning had the highest positive influence on employees’ performance in quoted companies in Edo and Delta States. Training and development had the least positive influence on employees’ performance of quoted companies in Edo and Delta States. It was recommended among others that human resource planning should be strongly instituted and implemented in quoted companies in Edo State.  Employees’ should be kept happy and satisfied by implementing adequate compensation practice and opportunities for them to improve on their personal and professional skills. Rewards should be adequately provided to employees’ that merit them.
