Summary

The study aimed to examine the human capital development and health sector efficiency of public tertiary health institutions in Edo State, Nigeria using the three tertiary health institutions in the state which are the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital and Irrua specialist teaching hospital, Irrua.

            In this study, six objectives were formulated and five hypotheses were formulated to proffer solutions to those assumptions. In doing that, questionnaire were constructed and distributed to various categories of staff in the three tertiary health institutions in Edo state. Having selected the tertiary health institutions, a simple random sampling method was used to select the respondents to fill out the questionnaire. From the population of 4019, a total of 364 respondents were randomly selected for the study. The data was analysed using frequencies, percentages, and pie-chart for the presentations. In a bid to test the relationships between the variables, T-test statistical analysis was used with SPSS statistical technique.
