ABSTRACT

This study examined the Housing and urbanisation problem in Benin City. The study amongst others also aimed at examining the growth of urbanisation and its adverse effects of the inhabitants of the study area. The study area is Benin City, the capital of Edo State. The data used for this research is attribute data. A total of 200 questionnaires were administered in the results communities that is Akpakpava, Ikpoba Oka and Ring road using the accidental sampling system. However, only 157 valid responses were coded and analysed. The mean was used for analysis and result showed that there is a relationship between the level of urbanization and demand for housing. Result also showed that high cost of building has a negative impact on cost of rentage. More so, problem of urbanization was a result of increasing number of people in a living unit or apartment.

  1.                   The government should provide incentives such as remission from taxes imposed on building materials, tenement rate, and income tax, according to the recommendations made in light of the research's findings.
  2.                   Last but not least, financial organizations like mortgage banks and multinational corporations ought to create housing estates in cities for both their employees and those in need.
